Summary

This article describes a hotfix package that contains a new feature for Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) 4.6 Service Pack 1 (SP1). This hotfix package is dated October 2012.

New feature that is added in this hotfix package

This hotfix package enables the virtualization of Adobe Reader X that is running in protected mode.

To virtualize Adobe Reader X that is running in protected mode on a computer that is running a 32-bit operating system, follow these steps:

Make sure that the App-V sequencer is not running.
Add a DWORD registry key whose name is EnableVFSPassthrough under the following registry subkey, and set the registry value to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Microsoft\SoftGrid\4.5\SystemGuard\Overrides
Note When this registry value is to 1, Adobe Reader X starts in protected mode.
Start the App-V sequencer to virtualize Adobe Reader X that is running in protected mode.
Add the following items under the POLICIES element in each Open Software Description (OSD) file in the Adobe Reader X package:
- <VIRTUAL_FILE_SYSTEM_PASS_THROUGH>TRUE</VIRTUAL_FILE_SYSTEM_PASS_THROUGH>
- <VIRTUAL_REGISTRY_PASS_THROUGH>TRUE</VIRTUAL_REGISTRY_PASS_THROUGH>
- <ENFORCE_ACLS_ON_VREG_MODIFY>TRUE</ENFORCE_ACLS_ON_VREG_MODIFY>

To virtualize Adobe Reader X that is running in protected mode on a computer that is running a 64-bit operating system, follow these steps:

Make sure that the App-V sequencer is not running.
Add a DWORD registry key whose name is EnableVFSPassthrough under the following registry subkey, and set the registry value to 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\SoftGrid\4.5\SystemGuard\Overrides
Note When this registry value is to 1, Adobe Reader X starts in protected mode.
Start the App-V sequencer to virtualize Adobe Reader X that is running in protected mode.
Add the following items under the POLICIES element in each Open Software Description (OSD) file in the Adobe Reader X package:
