Symptoms

Assume that you use the TCP receive window autotuning feature in a TCP connection on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. After some time, the feature is disabled. Additionally, it takes longer than expected to transfer a large amount of data over the connection.

Note This issue occurs when one of the following conditions is true:

  • A TCP SYN packet is sent multiple times over the TCP connection.

  • You create the TCP connection on a client computer that does not support the TCP window scaling feature. For example, you create the TCP connection on a computer that is running Windows XP.

Cause

This issue occurs because the TCP/IP driver disables the autotuning feature for all the connections on the computer. The driver does this when an incoming connection does not support the autotuning feature or when a TCP SYN packet is sent multiple times.

Note The expected behavior is that the driver disables the autotuning feature on specific TCP connections on the computer.

Resolution
