Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • You open many applications, and then the icons of the applications are displayed as stacked on the taskbar.
  • You change the color depth of the screen several times. For example, you change the color depth from 32-bit to 16-bit, and then you change the color depth from 16-bit to 24-bit, and so on.
In this scenario, some icons are not displayed correctly on the taskbar. More specifically, the icons are displayed as other icons randomly.

Note This issue also occurs when you disconnect the computer from a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session, and then reconnect to the computer by using Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) with a different color depth setting.
