Symptoms

Assume that a computer is running an international version of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. For example, the computer is running the Japanese version of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. In this situation, the Task Category information in Event Viewer is displayed as a number that relates to the category of an event that occurs. For example, the information is displayed as (1).

Cause

This issue occurs because the event decode routine in the Wevtsvc.dll file does not fall back to a LANGID neutral value when the routine cannot format a message in a particular language.
