Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You run Windows Internet Explorer on a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device.

You configure Internet Explorer to use a proxy server.
-
You restart the device by using a warm-boot procedure.
Note The different boot process types are warm booting, cold booting, and clean booting. The warm-boot procedure should clear the program memory of the device while it retains storage memory.
In this scenario, the proxy server settings for Internet Explorer do not persist after the warm-boot procedure is run.

Specifically, you must set the DWORD value of the RetainProxySettings registry entry to 1 in the following registry subkey:
