DHCP server will not lease IP addresses to clients

Symptoms

DHCP server will not assign any IP address to the client machines and the following error is logged event viewer.

User:          NETWORK SERVICE
Description:
DHCP Services were denied to machine with hardware address <MAC address>, hardware type 1 and FQDN/Hostname <Machine Name> because it did not match any entry in the Allow List.

Cause

This will happen if you have enabled Filters on DHCP server and no MAC address are added to it.

Resolution

Either add the MAC addresses of the client machines to the filters under DHCP or disable the Filter.

You can disable the Filter through DHCP Console.

  1. Open DHCP Console.
  2. Expand domainname.local (Domain name will be your local domain name).
  3. Expand IPv4.
  4. Expand Filters.
  5. Right click on Allow and choose Disable
