FIX: DTS: Transfer Objects and Data May Cause Access Violation

SYMPTOMS

In the Data Transformation Services (DTS) Wizard, using the Transfer Objects and Data Between SQL Server 7.0 Databases option causes an exception access violation (AV) in Dtswiz.exe if you specify Other (ODBC Data Source) as the source and the destination of the transfer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following as the source and destination of the transfer, instead of an ODBC Data Source:
  • The Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server.

    -or-
  • The Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
