The Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Administrative Update is designed to update an administrative installation of
your Office 2000 Service Release 1/Service Release 1a (SR1/SR1a) programs and supporting files to SP2 level. This
article explains how to download and install the Microsoft Office 2000 SP2
Administrative Update.
Update requirements
To apply the SP2 Administrative Update, your Office 2000
administrative installation must be at the SR1/SR1a level. If you try to
apply the SP2 Administrative Update to an administrative installation that is
not at the SR1/SR1a level, you receive the following error message:
The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows
Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the
upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the
program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct
upgrade patch.
If you need to update your Office 2000 administrative
installation to the SR1/SR1a level, see the following article in the

SHORTFILENAMES=1

SP2 Source Path to .msp
----------------------------------------------------
Sp2admin.exe download C:\Sp2admin
SP2 Update CD-ROM <CD-ROM drive>\Sp2\Admin
Note <CD-ROM drive> in the preceding table is the drive letter
of your CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive. The Microsoft Office 2000

- At this point, your administrative installation point is

the remaining three .msp files listed as follows:
- Excelmst.msp
- Out2kmst.msp
- Pptmst.msp
When you apply each of the .msp files, make sure to change
the .msp file name used in the command line in step 1.
Omitting the
installation of the Out2kmst.msp file is not an option if you do not want the
Outlook E-mail Security Update, because the necessary registry updates are
contained in the file. The Out2kmst.msp, Pptmst.msp, and Excelmst.msp files
update the registry, and the Sp2admin.msp file updates the files on the
computer. Updated versions of all .msp files must be applied to the computer in
order for the upgrade to succeed. Failure to apply all .msp files will put the
Office 2000 SP2 Administrative image in an unsupported state.
Note When you apply Excelmst.msp, Out2kmst.msp, or Pptmst.msp to your
administrative installation, you may receive one of the following error
messages: Internal Error 2250: Please contact product
support for assistance.
Internal Error
2251: Please contact product support for assistance.
If you receive
one of these error messages, click OK and then proceed with the next .msp file in the list. These are
not fatal errors; they indicate that you already applied an update to your
administrative installation that contains the same update as the .msp file that
you just used.
