WARNING: If you perform the following steps, you will cause your machine to encounter a stop error.

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows XP machine.
  • You open a picture with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
  • Click Ctrl + P to bring up the Windows XP Photo Printing Wizard. Print the picture and select the Microsoft XPS Document Writer or any XPS printer driver.
  • After the picture has printed and the Wizard is still up, click Back->Back->Back.
  • Then click Next->Next->Next to print the picture again.

After you print the picture again the second time, the machine encounters a Stop error 0x8E.

The stop error occurs due to pool corruption when you attempt to print the document a second time using the same Photo Printing Wizard.

If you need to print the picture again, click "Finish" in the Photo Printing Wizard first. Then print the picture again using a new session of the Photo Printing Wizard.
