Symptoms

Daily, System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Management Points (MPs) that are collocated with the client will fail, returning HTTP 500s to calling clients.  This occurs after the Client Health Evaluation task runs and reinstalls the client.  Inspection of the CCMEval.log will show entries similar to the following:

Cause

This issue can be seen if Windows Management Framework 3.0 KB 2506143 has been installed within your System Center 2012 Configuration Manager RTM environment. The System Center 2012 Configuration Manager RTM client is not compatible with Windows Management Framework 3.0. During the daily Client Health evaluation, CCMEval.exe mistakenly finds the WMI repository to be corrupted and thus calls for a rebuild and reinstalls the client. The rebuild of the repository by CCMEval causes loss of MP specific information, methods, etc., from WMI which as a result causes the MP to fail.

System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Service Pack 1 will provide official support for Windows Management Framework 3.0 so is not impacted by this issue.

Resolution

The recommended action is to apply System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1 to your environment. For System Center 2012 Configuration Manager RTM environments, you can work around the issue by setting the following registry value to True on the impacted clients:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM\CcmEval\NotifyOnly

With this registry value set to True, the client will still run the evaluation task daily and incorrectly report that the WMI repository is corrupt but will not call for the repository rebuild or the daily client reinstall.

If the Management Point is already failing as a result of the evaluation being run, the MP will need to be uninstalled and reinstalled to get it back online.
