Resolution

When you start an Office 2013 application, like Word 2013 or Excel 2013, on a Windows 8 PC, you may need to uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode if you get this error:

Microsoft Office cannot verify the license for this product. You should repair the Office program by using Control Panel.

To turn compatibility mode off, follow these steps:
  1. From the Start screen on a Windows 8 PC, swipe down on or right-click the Office 2013 application to select it.
  2. Tap or click Open file location.
  3. Tap and hold or right-click the Office 2013 application icon that's causing the error and tap or click Properties.
  4. Tap or click the Compatibility tab.
  5. Uncheck Run this program in compatibility mode, and tap or click OK.
Note This error doesn't occur on a Windows 7 PC if the compatibility mode is turned on.
