INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to use the Microsoft Outlook Configuration Analyzer Tool 2.0 (OCAT) to determine which plug-ins are associated with an Outlook installation in Microsoft Office 365. This tool can be used during Outlook troubleshooting to isolate plug-ins that cause unexplained behavior. When the plug-ins are identified, they can be removed or disabled as part of the troubleshooting process.

PROCEDURE

To use OCAT to determining what plug-ins and add-ins are currently associated with an Outlook installation, follow these steps:
  1. Download the OCAT from the Microsoft Download Center:

  2. Install and run the tool.

    After OCAT is started, it tries to detect and download updates. If updates are available for the tool, download them. When the update process is complete (or OCAT states that it's up to date), go to the OCAT welcome screen.

  3. Click Select options for a new scan.
  4. On the Start a New Scan page, enter a descriptive name in the Enter a scan label field. Make sure that Full Scan is selected in the Task list, and then click Start scanning.

  5. The Scanning in Progress screen is displayed, and the screen shows the real-time status of the scanning process. When the process is complete, click View a report of this configuration scan.
  6. The Preparing Scan screen is displayed. When the scan is complete, the View Configuration Report screen is displayed.
  7. Under Select Report Type, make sure that List Reports is selected. The screen resembles the following:

  8. Expand Default Profile. If necessary, expand Add-ins (Microsoft and third-party) and third-party modules.
  9. The list of modules and add-ins that are associated with Outlook are displayed. The following is an example list of add-ins.

    You can use the list to isolate any Outlook add-ins or Outlook plug-ins that cause unexpected behavior. You can also take one of the following actions to disable or remove the add-ins or plug-ins:
    • Remove the product that is associated with the plug-in.
    • Remove the plug-in from the Add or Remove Programs list in Control Panel.
    • Restart Outlook by using the /safe:3 command-line switch to prevent all plug-ins from running. For more information about how to use Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 switches, go to the following Microsoft websites:
