Article ID: 280652 - Last Review: February 27, 2007 - Revision: 3.3 XADM: "Event ID 1088" Is Logged and Store Fails to MountThis article was previously published under Q280652 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to mount message databases on an Exchange 2000 computer, the procedure may fail and the following event ID message may be logged in the Application event log:
Event ID: 1088 Source: MSExchangeIS Type: Error Category: General Description: The information store could not be loaded because the distinguished name (DN) of message database /O=old_org_name/OU=old_site_name/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN= does not match the DN of directory /O=new_org_name/OU=new_site_name/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=. The database may have been restored to a computer that is in a different organization or site than the original database. CAUSE
This behavior can occur when you restore the message databases from a server that was upgraded from Exchange Server 5.5, where the Exchange Server 5.5 site name is not "First Administrative Group". To mount stores on an Exchange 2000 computer, the Organization name and the Administrative Group (or Exchange Server 5.5 site) name of the messaging databases must have the same name as the Organization and the Administrative Group in Active Directory. By default, a new installation of Exchange 2000 creates an Administrative Group named "First Administrative Group" in Active Directory.
RESOLUTION
There are two ways to resolve this behavior:
