XADM: "Event ID 1088" Is Logged and Store Fails to Mount

When you attempt to mount message databases on an Exchange 2000 computer, the procedure may fail and the following event ID message may be logged in the Application event log:

This behavior can occur when you restore the message databases from a server that was upgraded from Exchange Server 5.5, where the Exchange Server 5.5 site name is not "First Administrative Group". To mount stores on an Exchange 2000 computer, the Organization name and the Administrative Group (or Exchange Server 5.5 site) name of the messaging databases must have the same name as the Organization and the Administrative Group in Active Directory. By default, a new installation of Exchange 2000 creates an Administrative Group named "First Administrative Group" in Active Directory.

There are two ways to resolve this behavior:

• Reinstall Exchange 2000 Server, and then rename "First Administrative Group" in Active Directory to be the same as the Administrative Group or Site name of the message database.For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
