Icon Is Displayed on the Taskbar After Closing the Screen Saver

When you close the screen saver, an icon that is titled "screen saver" is displayed on the taskbar. If you click the icon, the icon disappears. If you start and then quit the screen saver again, a new icon that is named "screen saver" is displayed, and then the name of the icon that was displayed first becomes blank.

This issue can occur if you applied the hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

To resolve this issue, remove the hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Find, and then click Files or Folders.
2. In the Named box, type "260067.inf" (without the quotation marks), and then click Find now.
3. Right-click the file name, click Install, and then follow the instructions.

To work around this issue, disable the screen saver and use the Energy Saving features to turn off the monitor.

To disable the screen saver, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Display, and then click the Screen Saver tab.
3. In the Screen Saver box, click (none).

To configure the monitor to turn off after a set period of time, follow these steps:

NOTE: Before you perform these steps, verify that your monitor supports this functionality.

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Display, and then click the Screen Saver tab.
3. In the Energy saving features of monitor section, click Settings.
4. Enter an appropriate time value in the Turn off monitor box.
5. Click OK.
