PRB: 'Read From Remote' Does Not Display Registered Servers in Enterprise Manager

When attempting to read the server registration information from a remote server, the server groups that were defined on the central store will be displayed, but the individual servers registered may not display and show (No items) beneath the server group. For an example, see the MORE INFORMATION section of this article.

Do not use the Read From Remote option. Use the Read/Store Locally option instead and then create the desired server groups and register servers.

For example, suppose a central store for the server registration information has been set up on a remote computer with the following steps:

1. In SQL Server Enterprise Manager, click the server, and then on the Tools menu, click Options.
2. On the General tab, clear the Read/Store User Independent check box.
3. Use SQL Server Enterprise Manager to create server groups and register servers.

On the local computer, you specify to read the server registration information from the remote central store with the following steps:

1. Click the server, and then on the Tools menu, click Options.
2. On the General tab, click Read From Remote.
3. In the Server Name box, type the name of the remote server from which you want to use registration information.

On the local computer you will note that the server groups appear, but when you expand the group to view the registered servers it displays (No items).
