OL2000: Error Message: The Name or Distribution List Has Been Deleted and Is No Longer Valid

SYMPTOMS

If you try to view the e-mail properties of the E-mail field in a contact, you may receive the following error message:
The name or distribution list has been deleted and is no longer valid

CAUSE

This problem can occur because there is an incorrect Entry ID for the e-mail address.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).

MORE INFORMATION

The problem is with the Entry ID for the e-mail address. When the e-mail address is ambiguous and then resolved, it returns a short term Entry ID only known to the users of that server. When there are multiple servers in the site and users from a different server (not the server where the contact was created) try to view the properties of the e-mail address, they receive the error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
