Visio2000: Error When You Quit Visio or Close Drawing with Many Custom Menu or Toolbar Items

SYMPTOMS

When you close drawing files or quit Microsoft Visio, you may receive the following error message:
The instruction at <0xXXXXXXXX> referenced memory at <0xXXXXXXXX>. The memory could not be read.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you open many drawings (.vsd or .vst files) that each contain many custom user-interface objects (such as toolbars, stencils, or menu objects) that have associated Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
