Article ID: 281616 - Last Review: January 25, 2006 - Revision: 1.2 System Restore Does Not Restore .bkf FilesThis article was previously published under Q281616 SYMPTOMS
When you use the Backup utility (Ntbackup.exe) to save backup files to the local hard disk, they are not protected by System Restore. For example, after you create and save the .bkf files, and you create a restore point (either manually or automatically), if you delete the .bkf files, and then run System Restore to roll the system back to a previous state, the backup files may not be restored by System Restore. CAUSE
The .bkf files are excluded from the System Restore procedure because they are the backup files that contain all the files for a restore, including .doc, .xls, .gif files. Backup and System Restore are independent features; System Restore does not restore a backup state.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
