After you run the Internet Connection Wizard (ICW), the following event ID (identification) may be logged in the System log:
Event ID: 5775 Source: Netlogon Description: Deregistration of the DNS record, record_name_and_dns_info failed with the following error: DNS bad key.
Event ID: 506 Source: DNS Description: The DNS server has an invalid or corrupt registry parameter. To correct the problem, you can delete the applicable registry value, located under DNS server parameters in the Windows 2000 registry. You can then recreate it using the DNS console. CAUSE
This problem can occur if the ICW had been previously run and "Modem or terminal adapter (example: internal ISDN cards)" had been selected as the connection type, and Windows 2000 DNS had been stopped and disabled. If the preceding steps had occurred, two settings are set incorrectly that are not corrected when the ICW starts and switches to a modem or terminal adapter:
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, correct the DNS settings of the Local Area Connection:
