SBS: How to Route Incoming Faxes to a Mailbox Other Than the Administrator Without Microsoft Outlook on the SBS Server

For the Microsoft Fax service for Small Business Server (SBS) to route incoming faxes to a mailbox other than the Administrator mailbox, a MAPI profile must exist for the other mailbox within the Administrator account's desktop profile. This article describes the process for creating a MAPI profile manually by making a copy of the existing Administrator's MAPI profile.

This process requires use of Regedit.exe and Notepad.exe. This process assumes that you have created a user account with the SBS console.

For the purposes of the following procedure, the user account that is going to be used as the destination for incoming faxes is USERACCNT where USERACCNT is the name of the user appropriate to your environment and needs.

1. Log on to the SBS server as the administrator.
2. Start Regedit.exe, and navigate to the following registry key:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Administrator
3. On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.
4. Save the file to the desktop and name it Export.
5. Leaving Registry Editor running, go to the desktop and open the Export.reg file with Notepad.exe.
6. In Notepad, on the Search menu, click Replace.
7. In the Find What box type administrator.
8. In the Replace With box type USERACCNT.
9. Click Replace All, and then click Cancel.
10. Save the Export.reg file, and then quit Notepad.
11. Double-click the Export.reg file on the desktop, and then click OK to the message from Registry Editor.
12. Check Registry Editor and see if the new profile appears. If it does not, repeat step 11.
13. Open the Fax Server properties in Control Panel.
14. On the Receive tab, click to select the Send to Local Inbox check box.
15. In the Profile Name box choose the value USERACCNT.
16. Send a test fax to your server and open the mailbox for USERACCNT.

In some cases, there may not be an Administrator MAPI profile to copy. If this is the case, follow the procedure below to create a new MAPI profile:

1. Create a temporary folder, and then copy these files:
   C:\ClientApps\MS\Office\CD1\PFiles\Common\System\Mapi\1033\NT\Newprof.exe
   C:\ClientApps\MS\Office\CD1\PFiles\Common\System\Mapi\1033\Mapisvc.inf
   C:\Smallbusiness\Sbssvr.prf
2. At a command prompt, navigate to the temporary directory that you created in step 1, and then run the following command:newprof -p .\sbssvr.prf

SBS 2000

1. Click Start, click Programs, and then click Microsoft Shared Fax.
2. Click Shared Fax Service Manager.
3. Right-click Microsoft shared fax (local), and then click Properties.
4. On the Receipts tab, click to select the use this configuration for the Microsoft Route through e-mail check box.
5. Fill in From e-mail address, and then fill in Server Address.
6. Expand Devices and Providers in Shared Fax Service Manager.
7. Expand Devices, expand Modem, and then expand Incoming Methods.
8. Right-click route through e-mail, click Properties, click the Email tab, and then type the e-mail address that the fax will be sent to in the Mail to box.
9. Right-click and then enable the route through e-mail option.
