Senders on the Blocked Senders list are not blocked in Outlook for Mac 2011

Symptoms

Senders that you add to your Blocked Senders list are not blocked in Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011 when the program is connected to an Exchange mailbox. 

Cause

This issue occurs in Outlook for Mac 2011 version 14.3.1 and earlier versions if the local client is connected to a Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox. It occurs because the program does not synchronize any settings for Junk email filtering with the server that is running Exchange Server. Outlook for Mac 2011 does not perform junk email filtering locally. Instead, the program relies on the filtering feature that is on the server. You can access this feature on the server by using Outlook Web App.

Resolution

An update has been added to Outlook for Mac 2011 version 14.3.2 that lets users who are running Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 have their Blocked Senders list be synchronized with the server that is running Exchange Server.

You must be connected to a mailbox on Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 to be able to synchronize your Blocked Senders list. If you are connected to an earlier version of Exchange, the Blocked Senders list will not be synchronized with the server that is running Exchange Server.

After you apply this update, the local Junk email filtering feature will be disabled for all accounts when Outlook for Mac 2011 version 14.3.2 is connected to an Exchange 2013 mailbox. The functionality that is added by this update lets you add senders to your Blocked Senders list only by using the Outlook for Mac 2011 client. This update does not add any junk email functionality at the client level. You cannot view the Blocked Senders list from the Outlook for Mac 2011 client. To view the Blocked Senders list, you can use Outlook Web Access.
