OL2000: (IMO) Outlook Stops Responding When You Click the Inbox

SYMPTOMS

When you use Outlook 2000 in IMO mode and click the Inbox with moderately populated folders on an Internet Messaging Access Protocol (IMAP) server, Outlook 2000 may stop responding and the following message may appear on the Outlook Status bar:
Fetching new headers

CAUSE

This problem occurs because there are two threads that have collided and are at a stand still because they are both waiting for the other thread to finish its operation; one of the threads is working with IMAP fetch responses from the server, and the other thread is trying to access the Inbox.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, wait for all the headers and cached information to be updated before you click the Inbox.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
