How to use the Jetpack utility on a clustered WINS/DHCP database

This article discusses how to use the Jetpack utility on a Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) database with the Windows Clustering feature.

In Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and in Microsoft Windows 2000, the Windows Clustering feature can make the WINS and the DHCP service more readily available. These services are installed and configured on the Windows Clustering feature as cluster resources.

Note The use of the the Jetpack utility on either a WINS or DHCP database on a server cluster requires special procedures that may deviate slightly from those documented in the following article.

1. Start Cluster Administrator. Ensure that the group that contains the WINS or DHCP service resource is currently owned by the cluster node you are logged into and in which you intend to run the Jetpack utility.
2. In Cluster Administrator, right-click WINS/DHCP service resource, and then click Take Offline. (For DHCP service, substitute DHCP for WINS.) If the resource is not taken offline, the following error message may be displayed:
   Jetpack failed with error = -1032
3. When the WINS or DHCP resource is offline, at a command prompt, change the working folder to the System32\Wins folder (or Dhcp folder) on the shared drive.
4. At a command prompt, type: jetpack wins.mdb temp.mdb ( or "dhcp.mdb" for the DHCP service). If a Jetpack utility command is successful (for the WINS database in this example), you may receive the following message:
   Compacted database wins.mdb in 1.469 seconds.
   moving temp.mdb => wins.mdb
   Jetpack completed successfully.
5. After the Jetpack utility has run, right-click WINS/DHCP service resource in the Cluster Administrator, and then click Bring Online.
