Article ID: 283933 - Last Review: February 21, 2007 - Revision: 2.2 No Content Returned When You Query Indexed XML DocumentsThis article was previously published under Q283933 SYMPTOMS
When you query indexed Extensible Markup Language (XML) documents, no content is found. Only file properties, such as file name and last modified date, are returned.
CAUSE
There are no index filters for XML documents in SharePoint Portal Server 2001. Index filters (Ifilters) are used to extract the content and properties of a document. SharePoint Portal Server 2001 includes Ifilters for the following file types: Microsoft Office, Text, HTML, MIME and TIFF.
RESOLUTION
A beta version of the XML Content Filter that will be included with the SharePoint Portal Server Resource Kit is available for download at the following Microsoft Web site:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/SharePointPortalServer/Utility/1/NT5/EN-US/xml.exe
(http://download.microsoft.com/download/sharepointportalserver/utility/1/nt5/en-us/xml.exe)
MORE INFORMATION
The .xml extension is included in the workspace file type inclusion list. This is used to index Microsoft Office files saved as HTML pages and not to index XML documents. Contents of XML documents will not be indexed unless you install the XML filter referred to in the "Resolution" section.
