Symptoms

When you run a query that uses the LIKE operator in the WHERE clause in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or Microsoft SQL Server 2012, you may experience poor performance. This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • The columns that the LIKE operator compares are in SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS collation.
  • The content that the LIKE operator compares is similar to the format that is the first character before the percent is "z" or "Z", such as "maz%".
