Outlook 2013 crash caused by Evernote add-in (EvernoteOL.dll)

Resolution

If you have the Evernote add-in for Outlook installed, you may experience crashes in Microsoft Outlook 2013. This problem is caused by a possible incompatibility between the Evernote.Connect add-in and Microsoft Outlook 2013.

If you open the Application Event log (see can see how below) and examine the events, you may see events pointing to a crash in EvernoteOL.dll, similar to the following example:

  1. From the Startscreen, type View event logs in the search box, and tap or click Settings.
  2. Tap or click View event logs.

  2. In the console tree, expand Event Viewer.

  1. Exit Microsoft Outlook, if running.
  2. Start the Registry editor:

    On the Desktop, press the Windows key + R. Type regedit in the Open box, and then press Enter.

  3. Locate and select the following registry key, based on the 'bitness' of your Office installation and Windows.
    • 32-bit Office plus 32-bit Windows

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\EvernoteOL.Connect
    • 64-bit Office plus 64-bit Windows

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\EvernoteOL.Connect
    • 32-bit Office plus 64-bit Windows

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\EvernoteOL.Connect
  4. Right-click the LoadBehavior value and then click Modify.
  5. Change the Value Data to 0, and then click OK.
  6. Close the Registry Editor and start Microsoft Outlook.
