Error Message: Object Picker Cannot Open Because No Locations from Which to Choose Objects Could Be Found

When you add users to a global group by using Active Directory Users and Computers, you may receive the following error message:

This behavior can occur if you have stopped the Remote Registry service on the domain controller to which the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in is connected. This error, however, is not reported when the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in is connected to the primary domain controller (PDC) operations master.

NOTE: When you attempt to add users to a local group, the domain that the domain controller is a member of, is not listed. However, all trusted domains are listed.

To resolve this behavior:

1. Start the Computer Management Microsoft Management Console (MMC).
2. Click to expand Services And Applications, and then click Services.
3. Set the Startup type of the Remote Registry service to Automatic, and then start the service.
