Cause

This error may occur if Internet Explorer is launched in a non-elevated context.  To successfully modify redirection.config (located in  C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config by default), Internet Explorer must be launched with an elevated token.  This allows child processes to also run in elevated context.

Resolution

To allow Microsoft Azure Service for Windows Server configuration to succeed successfully, use the following steps:

  1. Right-click on your link to Internet Explorer and choose Run as administrator.
  2. Connect to https://localhost:30101/ in the Internet Explorer window you launched in step 1.
  3. Fill out the configuration dialog to continue.
