SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to print a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that contains a Lotus Freelance 97 graphic as a metafile with gradient colors, the gradient colors in the foreground are not printed as expected, although their backgrounds are printed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you print the slide on a PostScript printer. The metafile implements the gradient colors by using a technique that is not supported by PostScript printers.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the inserted graphic, point to Grouping, and then click Ungroup. When prompted about whether you want to convert the object, click Yes.
  2. Select individual elements within the graphic and edit them as needed by using the tools on the Drawing toolbar.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
