SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a clip, for example, a .wmf file, by clicking Open Clip In on the gallery shortcut menu, another instance of Clip Organizer starts, and the clip does not open.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when a clip file type is associated with Clip Organizer. Clip Organizer is not designed to open media files. It is not a file viewer. It is a program to organize and preview media files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, change the association of the file type that you are attempting to open in Clip Organizer. To change the association of a file type, follow these steps:

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Folder Options.
  3. In the Folder Options dialog box, click the File Types tab.
  4. In the Registered file types box, select the file type that you want, for example, WMF.

The program that opens by default with the selected file type in the Details box.
  5. Click Change.
  6. Select the program that you want to open with the selected file type, for example, Imaging or Microsoft Photodraw 2000.
  7. Click OK, and then click Close.
