PRJ2000: Microsoft Project Stops Responding When You Expand Projects Within Master Project

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you expand inserted projects within a master project, Microsoft Project may stop responding without any error message.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when the inserted projects that you are trying to expand are already open read/write.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Project 2000, Service Release 1 (SR-1).

Temporary Workaround

To temporarily work around this problem in Microsoft Project 2000 (non-SR-1), follow these steps to set calculations to manual:
  1. Click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Calculation tab.
  2. Under the Calculation option for Microsoft Project, select Manual.
You receive two non-fatal error messages, but Microsoft Project will not stop responding.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 2000, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
