Symptoms

When you try to load a Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 project file by using Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Preview, Visual Studio 2013 Preview may hang.

Note The project file from the original (RTM) version of Visual Studio 2012 does not have this issue. However, you may encounter this issue if the project file was created by an interim release version of Visual Studio 2012.

Cause

This issue occurs because this project file contains one of the following lines of code:
  • <VCTargetsPath Condition="'$(VCTargetsPath11)' != '' and '$(VSVersion)' == '' and '$(VisualStudioVersion)' == ''">$(VCTargetsPath11)</VCTargetsPath>
  • <VCTargetsPath Condition="'$(VCTargetsPath11)' != '' and '$(VSVersion)' == ''">$(VCTargetsPath11)</VCTargetsPath>

Workaround

To work around this issue, remove the line of code that the "Cause" section mentions from the project file.
