Error messages occur when you run Easy CD Creator in Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or Microsoft Windows 2000 and you try to run Easy CD Creator or Direct CD, you may receive the following error messages:

Direct CD 3

A driver is installed that causes stability problems with your system.
This driver will be disabled, please contact the driver manufacturer for an update that is compatible with this version of Windows.

To run the program, click Continue. For more information, click Details.

If you click Continue, you may receive the following error message:

directcd.exe - Application Error

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on Ok to terminate the application.

If you try to start Easy CD Creator 4, you may receive the following error message:

Easy CD Creator 4

Easy CD Creator 4 has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Windows, contact Roxio, Inc.

To run the program, click Continue. For more information, click Details.

If you click Continue, you may receive the following error message:

Adaptec CD Copier

CD Copier cannot find Easy CD Creator. Please reinstall Easy CD Creator.

Ok

If you click OK, you may receive the following error message:

Adaptec CD Copier

CD Copier could not locate a supported CD-ROM reader. You will not be able to make disc-to-disc copies.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because certain versions of Roxio products are not compatible with Windows XP.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact Roxio for a fully compatible version of Easy CD Creator. To work around this behavior, upgrade to Easy CD Creator 5.1.

Note You cannot follow these steps to install Direct CD.

Download the 5.1 update for Easy CD Creator 5.0x. To do this, visit the following Roxio Web site:
http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/ecdc/software_updates.html (http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/ecdc/software_updates.html)
Note You must upgrade Easy CD Creator 4.0x to Easy CD Creator 5.0 or later if you want to receive support from Roxio.
Either double-click Setup.exe or insert the installation CD-ROM, and then click Install Easy CD Creator.
Click Next.
Click I Accept the terms in the license agreement, and then click Next.
Click Custom, and then click Next.
Click Direct CD, and then click Next.
Click This feature will not be available, and then click Next.
Click Install, and then click Finish.
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click No (do not restart the computer).
Double-click the 5.1 update.
Click Yes, and then click Update.
Click Yes to restart the computer.
