Cannot Set Proxy Policy Settings to "Not Configured" After They Have Been Enabled

SYMPTOMS

Most policies within Group Policy objects (GPOs) have three states: Not Configured, Disabled, and Enabled. After you enable or disable the group policy for proxy settings, you cannot set it back to the Not Configured state as you can other policies.

For example, if you configure a group policy at the organizational unit level (OU1), configure the proxy settings, set the policy to "no override," and then later add a child (OU2) to that organizational unit and create another group policy with proxy settings that you want to use the proxy settings for the group policy on, OU1 will always take precedence.

RESOLUTION

The only workarounds are to either delete the policy on OU1 and configure it as before but without the proxy policy settings, or remove the "no override" flag from the group policy at OU1.

Note To find all Internet Explorer Maintenance policies, you first have to find the domain controller that you are logging on to.

To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type Set L, and then press ENTER.

You will see the LOGONSERVER.
After you see the name of the domain controller, click Start, click Run, type \\Domain_Controller_Name\SYSVOL\DomainName\Policies, and then press ENTER.
In the Policies folder, search for "IEAK".

You will receive the following result:

\\Domain_Controller_Name\SYSVOL\DomainName\Policies\{GUID}\User\microsoft\IEAK

Note In this step, {GUID} is the GUID for the GPO. You can open the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) and look for this GUID under each policy.
