Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 2001 Is Not Compatible with Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

When trying to install the Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 2001 program, you may receive the following error message:
Norton AntiVirus 2001

Norton Antivirus 2001 has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. The symevent.sys driver installed by this program is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, contact Symantec.
When you restart your computer after you install Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 2001 and on subsequent restarts, you may receive the following error message:
NAV Auto-Protect
Unable to Start SymEvent.

CAUSE

Norton Anti-Virus 2001 is not compatible with Windows XP because it was designed to work with specific versions of the Windows operating system.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, contact Symantec to inquire about the availability of an update that addresses this issue.
