CAUSE
This issue can occur if the Active Directory Connector is uninstalled by using the uninstall option with the RTM version of Exchange 2000. The Exchange 2000 RTM uninstall option for the Active Directory Connector removes the Active Directory Connections container from the Active Directory. The Remove All option in Exchange 2000 SP1 and later may not have this issue. Microsoft recommends that if you need to uninstall an Active Directory Connector, do so by using the Exchange 2000 Service Pack 1 or later Setup.exe file that is located in the I386\Adc folder to avoid this issue. However, if you have already removed the Active Directory Connector by using Exchange 2000 RTM follow the steps in the "Resolution". RESOLUTIONNOTE: If you plan to operate in a mixed Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 environment, then you must run Forest Prep again to recreate the ADC container with the right Access Control Lists (ACLs). If your environment is to contain Exchange 2000 exclusively, you can recreate the ADC container in one of two ways; install the ADC again and set its service to disabled, or manually create the object in the Active Directory as noted below:
