SYMPTOMS

When Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003 runs on a two-node cluster and you move all resources to one of the nodes, the following event ID message may be logged in the Application event log:
Date: 1/29/2001
Time: 3:37:38 PM
Source: MSExchangeSA
Type: Error
Category: General
Event ID: 9152
User: N/A
Computer: MEMMAIL1
Description: Microsoft Exchange System Attendant reported an error '0xc1034a70' in its DS Monitoring thread.

Date: 1/29/2001
Time: 3:37:38 PM
Source: MSExchangeSA
Type: Error
Category: General
Event ID: 9152
User: N/A
Computer: MEMMAIL2
Description: Microsoft Exchange System Attendant reported an error '0xc1034a70' in its DS Monitoring thread.
MEMMAIL1 and MEMMAIL2 are the nodes of the cluster in question. When you move resources from MEMMAIL1 to MEMMAIL2, the Event ID shows MEMMAIL1 in the Computer field. When you move resources from MEMMAIL2 to MEMMAIL1, the Event ID shows MEMMAIL2 in the Computer field.

CAUSE

When you move all resources in a two-node cluster to one node, the system attendant on the other node is no longer responsible for any resources. However, the system attendant does not distinguish between not being responsible for a virtual machine, and not being able to start a virtual machine. Therefore, it logs the error. This error can be safely ignored.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 2003.
