Error message: "The following features from your workbook will not be saved in the XML Spreadsheet"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save a workbook in the XML Spreadsheet 2003 format in Microsoft Office Excel 2007, you may receive an error message that resembles the following error message:
Filename may contain features which are not compatible with XML spreadsheet 2003. Do you want to keep the workbook in this format?
  • To keep this format which leaves out any incompatible features, click Yes.
  • To preserve the features, click No. Then save a copy in the latest Excel file format.
  • To see what might be lost, click Help.
To determine the unique number that is associated with the message that you receive, press CTRL+SHIFT+I. The following number appears in the lower-right corner of this message:

The following features from your workbook will not be saved in the XML Spreadsheet:

* AutoShapes, other objects, or charts
* VB project

Do you want to continue saving as an XML Spreadsheet?

CAUSE

The XML Spreadsheet format cannot save various types of objects and data.

When you save an Excel workbook in XML Spreadsheet format, the following types of objects and data are not saved with the file:
  • OLE objects (such as embedded documents or objects from another program)
  • Pictures
  • Drawings and AutoShapes
  • Charts
  • Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) projects
  • Group and outline information
  • Custom e-mail envelope information
  • Custom named styles that are not being used by any cell in the workbook
