An issue has been discovered in the August 12, 2014, update for Microsoft Outlook 2013 that prevents some users from opening archived folders. We have removed this update from availability, and we have corrected this issue in update KB2889859.

Summary

This article describes the issues that are fixed in the Microsoft Outlook 2013 hotfix package that is dated August 12, 2014.

INTRODUCTION

Issues that this hotfix package fixes

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You connect Outlook to your mail server by using the Exchange ActiveSync Protocol (EAS). The most common EAS server is outlook.com, but any server that uses EAS exhibits the problem.

    • You create a recurring meeting and invite some attendees, and you create an exception for one specific instance of the series.

    • You use a mail client other than Outlook to change the exception several times. For example, you change the location and send an update, then you change the location back and send a second update, then you change the subject and send a third update.

    • You make a change to the meeting series by using Outlook (for example, changing the subject) and you send the updates.

    In this scenario, an update is sent out for the meeting series, and an update is sent out for every time that you changed the exception. Instead of just sending out one update for the exceptional instance, Outlook in this example sends three updates. Assume that you made ten changes to the exception, Outlook would send ten updates. If you have 5 exceptions, and 5 changes were made to each exception, you would see 25 updates instead of 5.

  • Assume that you configure an Office 365 account in Outlook 2013, when you try to connect to a public folder that is hosted on an Exchange 2007 server, the connection may fail.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You use the following steps to repair an account in Outlook 2013:

      1. In Outlook 2013, click File tab, and then click Account Settings.

      2. In the drop-down list, click Account Settings.

      3. On the Email tab, select the account, and then click Repair.

    • When the repair is finished, you restart Outlook.

    In this scenario, Outlook is in “Work Offline” mode, and you cannot start Outlook in online mode.

  • Assume that you configure an IMAP email account in Outlook 2013 on two computers. When you mark an email item as read or unread in Outlook on one computer, the read and unread status of the email item does not update in Outlook on the other computer.

  • Assume that you configure Outlook 2013 to connect to your mailbox that is hosted on an Exchange 2007 server. You create a forwarding rule on a public folder that is hosted on an Exchange 2007 server. When you try to save the rule, you may receive the error message that resembles the following:

    Changes to the rule cannot be saved.


  • Assume that you configure an IMAP email account in Outlook 2013. When you move an email message from one folder to another, the Internet headers of the email message may change or disappear.

  • Consider the following scenario:

    • You configure an IMAP email account in Outlook 2013.

    • On the Deleted Item tab in the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box, you select Mark items for deletion but do not move them automatically.

    • You open an IMAP folder that contains some email items in Outlook 2013, and then you delete more than one email item.

    • You select more than one email item that is marked for deletion and right-click the items that you select.

    In this scenario, the Undelete menu does not appear in the shortcut menu.

  • By default, in Outlook 2013, in the Search Panel in Outlook Options, the Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown option is enabled. In this situation, when you search for offline items in Outlook 2013, the search result only contains no more than 30 items.

    Note After you install this update the search result is able to contain up to 250 items.

To install this hotfix package, you must have Office 2013 installed.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

To use one of the hotfixes in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

File information

This hotfix may not contain all the files that you must have to fully update a product to the latest build. This hotfix contains only the files that you must have to resolve the issues that are listed in this article.
The global version of this hotfix package uses a Microsoft Windows Installer package to install the hotfix package. The dates and the times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) in the following table. When you view the file information, the date is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
