XADM: Public Folder Proxy Objects Are Not Removed from Active Directory

SYMPTOMS

After you delete public folders from the default public folder hierarchy (also referred to as the "MAPI Public Folder Tree") by using Exchange System Manager, the corresponding Public Folder Proxy objects may still remain in Active Directory. Because these deleted public folders were previously mail-enabled, mail that is sent to these non-existent public folders is still viable according to SMTP, and the mail goes to the local information store delivery queue. The information store does not accept these mail messages because no folder exists; therefore, these mail messages may sit in the local delivery queue until they eventually time out and return a non-delivery report (NDR).

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1.
