An Error Message "Event ID 2511" Is Displayed During an Upgrade of Small Business Server 4.5 to Small Business Server 2000

During the setup of Small Business Server 2000, the following error message may be logged in the system log in Event Viewer:

Where Driveletter is the partition on which the FaxStore folder had been located.

This behavior can occur because the server service tries to load the FaxStore share after the first restart of the server during the Small Business Server 2000 upgrade process. The \FaxStore folder is deleted during the upgrade process, but the corresponding share is not removed until later in the setup process.

You can ignore this behavior. Or, if you prefer, you can work around the behavior. To do this, perform the following steps.

1. Run Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
2. From the View menu, click Tree and Data.
3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares.
4. Click FaxStore.
5. From the Edit menu, click Delete.
6. Quit Registry Editor.
7. Shutdown and restart the server.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Small Business Server 2000.
