The y-axis label orientation changes in a chart when you open a document that was created in Word 97 in Word 2000

SYMPTOMS

In Word 2000, when you open a document that was created in Word 97 and the document contains a chart, the orientation of the y-axis label is incorrect.

CAUSE

This problem can occur with charts that are created in The MathWorks's MATLAB and then copied and pasted into Office documents as enhanced metafiles (.emf).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Office 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Click to select the chart.
  2. Right-click the chart, and then click Edit Picture.
  3. Click to select the y-axis text box.
  4. On the Format menu, click Text Direction.
  5. Under Orientation, click to select Orient text vertically, bottom-to-top, and then click OK.
  6. In the Edit Picture dialog box, click Close Picture.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).
