"No such object on the server" error message when you create an Exchange Recipient Update Service

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new Recipient Update Service in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, you may receive the following error message:

There is no such object on the server.
Facility: LDAP Provider
ID no: 80072030
Exchange System Manager

Additionally, the following event ID message may be logged in the Application event log:

Event: Error
Event ID: 8270
Source: MSExchangeAL
Description: LDAP returned the error [20] No Such Object when importing the transaction

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Active Directory Users and Computers management console to move the following security groups to the default Users container:
