Symptoms

Assume that you have a computer that is running Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2. You may experience certain issues when you directly or indirectly use the base CopyFile() function to copy files to a server message block (SMB) share that is hosted on a Windows Server 2012 R2-based clustered file server.

Note The base CopyFile() function includes the Copy and Paste options in Windows Explorer, the Copy command in Command Prompt (cmd.exe), the Copy-Item cmdlet in Windows PowerShell, the File.Copy function in the Microsoft .NET Framework, the robocopy function, the xcopy function, and so on.

For example, you may experience the following issues:

  • When you try to copy a file that has non-sector-aligned file sizes between two folders that are hosted on the same cluster node, the copy operation fails.

  • When you pause a copy operation in Windows Explorer, you can't resume the operation.

This update fixes the issues that occur during these scenarios, and significantly improves performance.
