WD2002: Unable to Select Microsoft Fax in Fax Wizard

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Fax Wizard in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Fax is unavailable (dimmed).

NOTE: To start the Fax Wizard, click New on the File menu. In the New Documents task pane, click General Templates. In the Templates dialog box, click the Letters & Faxes tab, click the Fax Wizard template, and then click OK.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you need to select the fax software that is installed on your system. To select your fax software, click to select A different fax program which is installed on this system in the Fax Software dialog box of the Fax Wizard. Then, do one of the following:
  • In the Which of the following is your fax program list, click Microsoft Fax.

    -or-
  • Click the Other button. In the Print Setup dialog box, select Microsoft Fax, click Set as Default Printer, and then click Close.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
