SYMPTOMS

A file size adjustment request by an old MS-DOS-based program may not be honored. This problem only occurs in "int 21h function 28h" (random block write to FCB file) when CX is set to 0.

This problem occurs because "int 21h function 28h" (random block write to FCB file) is used to write data to a file on the disk, and CX holds the number of records to write. If CX is set to 0, no data is written; instead, the file size is adjusted to be the same as the file position that the random record and record size fields of the file control block (FCB) specify. Windows Virtual DOS Machine (NTVDM) does not adjust the file size for this request.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
