OFF97: "You Do Not Have Access ..." Error Message When You Use Wildcard as File Name in Open Office Document Dialog Box

SYMPTOMS

When you type *.* as the file name in the Open Office Document dialog box, you receive the following error message:
You do not have access to the folder 'path\*.*. See your administrator for access to this folder.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
