XADM: Cannot Create ADC Connection Agreement if There Is a Dot in the Exchange Server 5.5 Computer Name

SYMPTOMS

When you are attempting to create a Connection Agreement, you may receive a failure message and see the following event in the Application event log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSADC
Event Category: LDAP Operations
Event ID: 8270
Description:
LDAP returned the error [13] Constraint Violation when importing the transaction dn: (DN)
The event description continues with several lines of configuration specific information.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the Exchange Server 5.5 Organization has a dot (.) in the target server name or organization name.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Exchange 2000 uses Active Directory and Domain Name System (DNS) for Internet domain names natively. Supporting a dot (.) in the organization name would break the domain name.
