SUMMARY

According to the end-user license agreement (EULA), if you are using a licensed version of Windows 2000, you do not have to purchase a Windows Server Terminal Services Client Access license to connect to a server that is running Windows Server Terminal Services. However, you must still deploy and activate a server that is running Terminal Services Licensing.

You must install and activate a Terminal Services Licensing server within 90 days of the date that you install a server that is running Terminal Services in Application Server mode. You must do so even if all the client computers that are connecting to a terminal server are running Windows Server. Although you do not have to purchase an additional Terminal Services Client Access license, you must have a Terminal Services Licensing server to validate these clients as they connect to a terminal server. These licenses are tracked by the Terminal Services Licensing tool and are referred to as "Existing Windows 2000 Licenses."
