Sintomi

When you view a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, you may receive one or both of the following error messages:
Microsoft PowerPoint

"hlink.dll" can't be loaded.
-or-
Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint failed to load "hlink.dll".

Cause

The Hlink.dll file is missing, damaged, or the wrong version.

Risoluzione

To resolve this problem, delete the Hlink.dll file on your hard disk (if it exists) and replace it. The Hlink.dll file is stored in a compressed CAB file, which you install with Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0. To replace the Hlink.dll file, use either of the following methods.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

Method 1: Reinstall Internet Explorer 5

  1. Save any open files, and close all running programs.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type hlink.dll. In the Look in box, make sure that drive C is selected. Click Find Now.
  4. If the Hlink.dll file is found, right-click it, and then click Rename on the shortcut menu. Rename the file from Hlink.dll to Hlink.old.
  5. Insert the Microsoft Office XP compact disc 1 into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  6. Click Start, click Run.
  7. In the Open box, type the following:
    drive:\IE5\EN\Ie5setup.exe
NOTE: drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Repair Internet Explorer, and then click OK. Windows reinstalls the Hlink.dll file to your system.

Method 2: Extract the Hlink.dll File

  1. Save any open files, and close all running programs.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type hlink.dll. In the Look in box, make sure that drive C is selected. Click Find Now.
  4. If the Hlink.dll file is found, right-click it, and then click Rename. Rename the file from Hlink.dll to Hlink.old.
  5. Insert the Microsoft Office XP compact disc 1 into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  6. Click Start, click Run.
  7. In the Open box, type the following if you are running Microsoft Windows 98:
    extract drive:\IE5\En\IE_S1.cab IE_1.cab /L c:\windows\desktop
If you are using Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000, type the following:
    extract drive:\IE5\En\IENT_S1.cab IENT_1.cab /L c:\windows\desktop
NOTE: drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and windows is the folder that contains Windows.
  8. Then, in the Open box, type the following to extract the Hlink.dll file, if you are running Windows 98:
    extract c:\windows\desktop\IE_1.cab hlink.dll /L c:\windows\system
If you are using Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000, type the following:
    extract c:\windows\desktop\IENT_1.cab hlink.dll /L c:\windows\system32
  9. Next, use the Microsoft Register Server (Regsvr32.exe) to register the Hlink.dll file manually on your 32-bit operating system. To use Regsvr32.exe, type the following
    c:\windows\system\Regsvr32 [/u] [/s] Filename
    where:

    • /u unregisters the .dll file
    • /s uses silent mode (displays no messages)
    • Filename is the name and path of the file you want to register.
For example, the following syntax registers the Microsoft Hlink.dll file, without displaying any messages, if you are running Windows 98:
    c:\windows\system\regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system\hlink.dll
If you are using Windows NT or Windows 2000, the syntax is:
    c:\windows\system32\regsvr32 /s c:\windows\system32\hlink.dll
